Report: 2008 Legislative Session Review

The 2008 Legislative Session was marked by caution. Although Washington State had a projected short-term surplus of over a billion dollars in January, a slowdown in the national economy and a slight downturn in the forecasted surplus for Washington State prompted the governor and legislators to focus on securing ample rainy day funds over making new investments. In the end, we succeeded in winning significant victories for children in foster care, coupled with small but concrete steps forward in the areas of early learning, ending hunger and children’s health care.
