Welcoming Dr. Stephan Blanford, Children’s Alliance’s new executive director

charlotte.linton 07/13/20

Dr Stephan BlanfordWe’re proud to announce that Dr. Stephan Blanford has assumed the position of Children’s Alliance’s executive director.

Stephan brings to this role a record of organizational leadership in service of improving outcomes for children and families. A former member of the Seattle School Board and executive director of the White Center Early Learning Initiative, Stephan’s experience in operationalizing principles of racial equity, his expertise in nonprofit financial management, and his work to advance family-focused public policy solutions made him an exceptional candidate. He is well suited to further the Board of Directors’ strategic plan, which focuses on leadership and organizational development to champion racial equity for Washington’s children and families.

Amid these times of challenge and change, in the face of the pandemic, as the movement for Black lives holds such promise to transform the inequalities that hold down too many Americans, Stephan will be stewarding our work to create a broad, straight path to success for every Washington child.

Children’s Alliance board and staff spent many hours in thoughtful, patient, and at times challenging discussion as we undertook the search process. Through their investment of time and care, the members of our search committee demonstrated a deep commitment to Children’s Alliance’s mission.

Now comes the months-long task of settling in and gearing up. Hyeok Kim, who has served for a brief time as our interim executive director, will continue working with staff and board members to ensure Stephan’s transition into his new role is smooth and successful.

Please welcome Stephan aboard. With the strength of this team and with thousands of advocates from across the state, we are entering a new phase in Children’s Alliance’s nearly four-decade record of improving outcomes for Washington’s children and families.
