Hyeok Kim has worked in the public and nonprofit sectors for over twenty years, most recently serving as Deputy Mayor of Seattle from 2014 to 2017. She previously worked in the State Legislature advising on policy matters related to children, families, and affordable housing.
She has served on the boards of local and national nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, including the Northwest Area Foundation, the Washington Dental Service Foundation, and the National Coalition for APA Community Development. She is also a former Commissioner on President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, a Marshall Memorial Fellow, and a Casey Fellow with the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Hyeok was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the Pacific Northwest at the age of five, where she and her family lived in publicly subsidized housing throughout her childhood. She currently resides in Seattle with her husband and son.
