The Children’s Alliance creates our annual Legislative Agenda with the aid of a racial equity policy analysis, so that our activities work to undo the damage of racism and ensure that all children, no matter their background, can contribute their best to our shared future. Every Washington child should have high-quality early learning that allows them to start school strong. The state’s Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) preschool uses a two-generation approach to clear the path toward better outcomes in school and in life. Yet tens of thousands of families aren’t enrolled in ECEAP due to limited state funding. Expand access to ECEAP.
Kids do better when the adults in their lives have access to needed health care. For thousands of Washingtonians from three Pacific Island nations—the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau— basic health coverage is out of reach. Promote children’s health by enabling parents and other adults from these countries to gain coverage through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange.
State investments in the well-being of our youngest generation create a brighter future for us all. The legislature must ensure that sustainable revenue increases children’s access to opportunity. Protect and strengthen state funding for kids by closing wasteful tax breaks and adopting new sources of revenue.
