Think Babies

Mother and child at Strolling ThunderChildren's Alliance has joined ZERO TO THREE's Think Babies™ campaign to advocate for policies and programs that work for Washington infants and toddlers and their families.

About the campaign:

ZERO TO THREE™ created the Think Babies campaign to make the potential of every baby a national priority. The science is clear. Our brains grow faster between the ages of 0-3 than any later point in life, forming more than one million new neural connections every second. When babies have nurturing relationships, early learning experiences and good nutrition, those neural connections are stimulated and strengthened, laying a strong foundation for the rest of their lives. When babies don’t get what their growing brains need to thrive, they don’t develop as they should. This leads to lifelong developmental, educational, social, and health challenges. When we Think Babies and invest in infants, toddlers and their families, we ensure a strong future for us all.

In 2018 we worked with a broad set of partners to learn more about the issues facing infants and toddlers in Washington state.  To inform the policy and advocacy direction of the state based campaign, we completed a robust and multifaceted landscape analysis.  The analysis was informed by over 100 partners through a day-long convening to dialogue and gather information.

The analysis and convening, in addition to in-depth partner conversations, led to the creation of a 2019 Think babies Legislative Agenda. Our 2019 legislative priorities included:

Advocates and partners showed up big for babies! As a result, the 2019 Think Babies agenda saw tremendous success! Washington passed the Child Care Access Now Act, increased child care subsidy rates, and passed authorizing language for an Early ECEAP program.
